an Introduction to Dance Movement Psychotherapy

  • Dance Base EH1 2JU (map)

Embodied. Creative. Connected.

Come learn about the foundations of Dance Movement Psychotherapy (DMP) -  a form of therapy that utilises the body and movement when exploring experiences and feelings.

The workshop is open to anyone who has an interest in DMP. You may be a talking therapist or counsellor, arts psychotherapist, student, be engaged in other somatic practices, or interested in exploring therapy for yourself in the future.

This introduction will include:

  • A brief history of Dance Movement Psychotherapy

  • Information about theoretical underpinnings of Dance Movement Psychotherapy

  • A guided experiential session to gain insight into what a DMP session can look like

  • Discussion and Q&A

No experience in dance necessary - come as you are!

This is not a therapy session, and participants will not be asked to disclose private material.

Practical Information: Because Dance Movement Psychotherapy is delivered in a variety of settings, there is never any need to wear anything other than usual street clothes. However, participants may be most comfortable in loose clothing that is easy to move in. Participants will be invited to take their shoes off to work in their socks/barefeet.
